How Google Search Is Changing

Have you been posting articles on your favorite sites, or writing blog post but have not seen any increases in revenue, site guests or SERPs in the past few weeks? If so, don’t despair. At the end of February, Google changed their algorithm, which affected websites of every type and size. This algorithm, dubbed by many as Farmer, is designed to weed out sites where there is an abundance of duplicate and less than stellar quality content. As a result, many site owners saw a significant downslide in revenue and a lowering in page rank.

When asked, Amit Singhal  of Google, explained that the weeding determinations were made by sending  questionnaires to testers and asking them to rate sites based on questions such as “ Would they be willing to share their credit card ?”, “Did they feel there were more ads than content?” and “Do you feel that this site is authoritative?” Once they had their answers, Google made changes.

To fail to do so, will mean one’s site(s) will rank low. If you are one of the 1,000’s who were affected, you may be wondering how to climb back up the page rank ladder. Here are several steps to help you recover:

  • Trash any web content that does not add site value.
  • Protect what is yours. If you run across content that was unique to your site on another page, run a WHOIS search to locate the site host is, then firmly request that your material be removed from the site.
  • Be creative! While imitation may be the highest form of flattery this not so on the web. Write original articles and blog posts so that your site will stand out from the crowd-not blend in at the bottom of the list.

By making just a few changes in your style, before you know it, you can soon be back where you were before the “Farmer” weeded the Web.

Chakery Design and FMC Financial Services Team Up

FMC Financial Services, a leader in the small business financing market, has announced that they will work with Chakery Design to redesign their company’s website and make it easier for prospective clients to find online.  With nearly 200 years of combined experience in the field, they help companies find the capital, tools, and advice they need to leverage competitive advantages and keep from becoming another story about “what could’ve been.”

The management team, which has a long and successful track record, notes that even though small businesses make up the bulk of the US economy, roughly 4 out of 5 fail within the first five years. And even worse, most of these failures could have been prevented with the right funding and insight – exactly what FMC provides.

In order to help them share what they know with more companies, the new website will focus on clear navigation and an eye-catching design, while keeping the breaking news and informational resources that existing customers have come to love. It’s a unique design challenge, but one that we at Chakery know we are up to. From our past work with smaller clients, to larger projects with organizations like American Airlines, Lockheed Martin, Georgetown University, and Texas A&M, we’ve developed the skills and expertise to get the right results.

Look for the new FMC Financial website in January at http://fmcfinancialservices.com/. And, if you’re running one of the millions of small businesses that could use help finding capital – or the best way forward – consider using them as a resource… they truly are the small business experts.

A Place of Hope International Website Goes Live!

We are so pleased to announce that A Place of Hope International – a Chakery client and all-around fantastic organization – have successfully launched their new website, which can be seen online at http://www.urmyhope.org/. The group, which establishes orphanages around the globe, needed a new online platform to raise awareness, attract donations, and be able to show people about the fantastic work they do.

Is Social Media the New SEO?

We all know that social networking is one of the hottest Internet trends out there – Facebook alone boasts more than 500 million users, with sites like Twitter and LinkedIn gaining ground fast. In fact, it reminds a lot of us in the web design and online marketing industry of the early days of search engine optimization, when business owners and marketers figured out that, by tweaking some of the elements of their sites, they could attract thousands of targeted web visitors every week.

And so, the question comes up in client meetings:  is social media marketing the new SEO?

The true answer is that it both is and isn’t. It is, in the sense that it’s an exciting new idea that both consumers and businesses are flocking to. Whether your business sells to individuals or Fortune 500 mega-companies, using social media should be a part of your plan for finding them.

It isn’t because search engine optimization and marketing aren’t going anywhere soon. Bear in mind that, popular as social networking sites are, Google alone brings in billions of visitors each day. That’s not changing anytime soon, which is why you need to constantly refine your SEO strategy.

Social media is gaining popularity every day, but don’t expect it to replace what you’re already doing just yet.

Website Development

Many businesses who are just getting online wonder to themselves why they need to look to a website design business to help them to get set up online. They may think that they have no problem setting up their own website online. They may feel fairly computer savvy and ready to take on whatever they need to in order to make their site look great and to be efficient.

Hundreds of hours later the same person may find that they now realize exactly why so many businesses look to a website design company to get their website off of the ground. Building a website doesn’t look hard, but it can be extremely hard. Yes, there are website design templates that you may be able to use to help you to get your site going, but it definitely will not look original, nor will the site give any indication of what your company is all about. A website design company, however, can work with your company to create a unique website that perfectly fits the mood and feel that your business has, allowing your potential customers and clients from around the world to understand what it is that you do simply by clicking on your homepage. Make sure that when you are looking for a website design company that you look at some of their previous projects to make sure that the design is something that you will like and that your not their first client. Ask for references or testimonials or pick a random site they have designed and call that company to see how the process went and if that company met the deadlines that they had set in the proposal. If the website design company offers search engine optimization see where their site ranks in the search engines or ask to see sites that they have done SEO for and then again check for the references. When your looking for that perefect website development team that is going to work with you on what will be the first impression one gets when they reach your site it has to be perfect. So take the time in the beginning to make sure that your dealing with a company that will take your business as serious as they take their own. Website Development begins once the relationship between the business and the client is at a good understanding of what the clients needs are and that both parties are comfortable moving forward.

Making Websites Friendly for Mobile Carriers

The internet has become something that you can not only access from a computer, now, but also through cell phones and other devices that can link up to mobile carriers. If you have a website and you’re looking to bring in more traffic, chances are pretty high that you’re going to eventually have a client or customer try to access your site from their mobile phone or other mobile electronic device, which is why it is very important that you learn, or hire someone, who knows how to make your website look great no matter whether it’s going to be viewed online or through a mobile device.

Getting a website primped and looking marvelous for a mobile device can be tricky, because you first need to know about how the different devices work and what types of software they run. For instance the iPhone has a different platform than Windows Mobile as well as for Android platform. Knowing the software information is definitely key. Most website often need to be simplified as well, to make them look great on the small screen. The entire thing can be a bit of a hassle, which is why many businesses opt to hire a website design company to do the work for them. Is your website ready to for the Android, Iphone, Windows, and Blackberry market?

Innocence Project Of Texas Selects Chakery Design to Work On New Website

The Innocence Project of Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to securing the release of those wrongfully convicted of serious crimes in Texas.  Our organization investigates claims of innocence made by Texas inmates, and we diligently work to inform citizens and public officials about why wrongful convictions occur and how they can be prevented.

Even though we are a relatively new organization, formed in late 2006, our organization has already had a tremendous amount of success in exonerating the wrongfully convicted.  In early 2008 we worked in cooperation with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office to secure the release of James Woodard, a man who had been convicted of a murder he did not commit.  James was cleared by the use of DNA evidence, and he became the longest serving inmate in Texas history to be exonerated and proven innocent.  In 2009, more success came our way with the exoneration of Timothy Cole, a young man who died in prison serving time for a rape committed by someone else.  Cole became the first person to receive a posthumous exoneration, and his story led to the passage of two state laws, one of which dramatically increased the compensation received by exonerees once they are released from incarceration.

Our organization is excited to be working with Chakery Design on the creation of a new website, which we hope will raise awareness for our cause and generate support for those who have lost their freedom at the hands of injustice.

Selling Online

I have found that even before the holidays that shoppers have been shopping online because it is very convenient in some situations to simply sit down point and click and within days have that product delivered to your home or business. Let’s  face it.. businesses have already been doing this for years for a numbers of products from things such as computers, toner, paper products, water, and other office supplies and equipment. But now with the help of Google, Bing, and Yahoo you can now price comparison shop and see where you can find the best price for that product you are looking for.

If you are a business and would like to know what you would have to do in order to be able to sell online it’s pretty simple. First you would need to have a domain name for your business which is will cost from $10 – $25. Than you will need a hosting account which will run about $10 – $30 per month. Next your going to need someone to design your website. This is a very important segment of the process, and I would suggest doing a local search for your area such as “dallas web design” or if you feel comfortable working with a web designer anywhere in the country simply do a search for “website design” You want to make sure that you get someone familiar with shopping carts and e-commerce as well as search engine optimization or seo. This is very key as you want to make sure that once your site is built that people will be able to find it.

It is very important for you to understand that you should be working on marketing yourself from using Twitter, Facebook, and any other sites that you can use to help market your site. I would suggest setting up a blog depending on your business. Discuss this with your web designer when you speak with him or her. Once you have worked with your developer and your site is ready to go public be patient as it is not always an instant thing. You can send out an email blast and pass out business cards but things do take time but it will take off.

You have made a big first step and you are on your way to becoming your own boss and congratulations to you for taking the risk that not everyone is prepared to take.
